BISHOP WARNS YOUTH

Frank Maponya

Zion Christian Church (ZCC) leader Bishop BE Lekganyane has urged young people to exercise caution and self-control in their lives.

He was giving a sermon at the church's headquarters in Moria, outside Polokwane, on Sunday.

Lekganyane said it was disappointing to hear a young man ask and elderly person for money "just to go and buy a cigarette".

"This shows disrespect for the elderly" said Lekganyane, who was addressing millions of his followers.

"Fortunately, smoking is not allowed in the ZCC," he said.

Lekganyane said it was also disappointing to see a girl as young as 12 with a baby in her arms.

"I would advise our youth to exercise self-control in their daily lives," he said.

Meanwhile, in the Limpopo village of Boyne, outside Polokwane, thousands of members of the other sector of the ZCC descended on their church headquarters.

Bishop Engenas Lekganyane advised congregants to fear God, encouraged unity within communities and emphasised forgiveness.

Present were ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe and NPA boss Mokotedi Mpshe.
