A leader and a man of God has fallen.
Reverend Dibuseng Zeekoei, a father and friend to all he knew, died after suffering a stroke last week.
Zeekoei was the dean of the Lutheran Church's Free State circuit. His family, relatives and congregation remember him as a lovable man who always had good advice for everyone.
His wife, Tshidi, said though illness had incapacitated her husband, she had prayed for strength to take care of him. She had expected him to recover.
"I am hurting now, but if it is God's will, who am I to dispute?" asked Tshidi.
She said they had been through many disappointments and joy together.
"He was strong. He never ever gave up. Even during difficult times, he would always continue on his journey of teaching the word of God. He was my support system," Tshidi said.
Zeekoei dropped out of Fort Hare University to pursue his Christian calling. He studied theology at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in KwaMaphumulo in KwaZulu-Natal.
He was ordained as a priest in 1989 and took over as the local priest of the Keimos church in the Kalahari before proceeding to Gaborone in Botswana.
On his return to South Africa, Zeekoei went to the Mdantsane parish in Eastern Cape. He was then posted to Majaakgoro in Northern Cape.
He was elected dean of the Free State in 2006 while serving the Bloemfontein South parish.
He spent his last days at the Bloemfontein North parish.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Maleshane and Neo, two brothers and a sister.
His funeral service will be held at St Johannes Lutheran Church in Bloemfontein from 7.30am. He will be buried at Phahameng Cemetery.
