ANC affront

South Africans are grateful to the ANC for its role in the liberation of our country.

South Africans are grateful to the ANC for its role in the liberation of our country.

But not all of us are impressed with the way the ruling party is distorting our history to entrench its lie that it was the sole liberator of our nation.

It does so by naming every important landmark after its own leaders.

The ruling party's plans to rename Old Potchefstroom Road, the major road linking Soweto with Johannesburg and North West, after Chris Hani, is a case in point.

Now, we have nothing against honouring ANC leaders. But, we have a big problem with the ANC's attitude that would have us believe that such non-ANC struggle heroes as Tsietsi Mashinini and Khotso Seatlholo, who led the June 1976 students uprisings, never existed.

The least said about the ruling party's contempt for Robert Sobukwe and Steve Biko the better.
