Top golfers and novices will tee off in the major women's amateur tournament - the Sanlam Women's Amateur Championship - at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Country Club this month.
The competition, which has been played for more than 100 years, promises to be exciting, with women and youngsters taking part.
The tournament, which has generated interest among golfers throughout the country and has also attracted players from foreign countries, will be played from March 30 to April 4.
Tournament secretary Paddy Goodwin, says Ashleigh Simon, who won the event for four straight years, will not be taking part this year because she has turned professional.
But they are looking at new kid on the block, Thanda Zama from KwaZulu-Natal.
Although she only started playing recently she has shown a lot of character in her performances.
"She is a hard worker, focused and she stands a good chance of winning. "Since Simons will not be playing, the tournament is open and there is a lot of opportunities for the youngsters.
"Top junior and senior players who are expected to enter will include Order of Merit leader Kim Williams and Nicole Becker, who represented South Africa at The Spirit Tournament at Whispering Pines in Houston, Texas, in October 2007," said Goodwin.
Tandi von Ruben, who was awarded SA junior colours for the Test match against The Netherlands at Steenberg and who also qualified to play in the British Ladies Open last year, will be a strong contender.
Pam Hayward, KwaZulu-Natal's number one player, has come into her own.
She took the honours as top amateur in the Acer Women's SA Open at the Durban Country Club recently.
There will be top juniors who will be vying for top honours.
Other players who will be taking part are Dominique Jacobs (Western Province), Chloe Garner (Boland), Ashleigh Holmes (Southern Cape), Lara Weinstein (Gauteng); Gina Switala, Connie Chen and Rone Minie (Gauteng North).
