Heavy rains will continue to pound Gauteng for another two days, while KwaZulu-Natal and North West can expect floods in parts today.

It was raining over large parts of KwaZulu-Natal yesterday. The rain should turn into a drizzle today and stop later in the day.

Like Gauteng, parts of North West are also expected to experience heavy rains until tomorrow.

It's been raining heavily in most parts of Gauteng since Saturday and the rain is expected to start abating only tomorrow.

Puseletso Mofokeng, a South Africa Weather Service climatologist in Pretoria, said that since Thursday there had been a lot of moisture and showers coming from Botswana into the northern parts of North West and western parts of Limpopo and Gauteng, which experienced heavy rains.

He said that there was a cold front bringing windy and cloudy conditions to the eastern parts of the country.

Durban was one of the places hit by strong winds after heavy rainfalls which took almost the whole day on Saturday.

Mofokeng said strong winds would also be experienced in the north-eastern North West, Gauteng, highveld areas of Mpumalanga and central parts of Limpopo

l Strong winds and heavy rains caused a huge tree to fall on the Weltevreden Road in Northcliff, Johannesburg, yesterday.

"We heard a huge bang when we were leaving for church at 9am and when we went outside the tree had fallen into the road," said Richard Gush, whose house is just a metre away from the fallen tree.

Gush said he tried calling Johannesburg Parks to report the incident but there was no one to answer the call.
