Delighted Ikapa Sporting coach Sergio Dos Santos praised his boys after a splendid performance that saw them advancing to the last-16 stage of the Nedbank Cup.

Sporting proved too smart for Bloemfontein Celtic, whom they beat 3-2 at Erica Park Stadium in Belhar, Cape Town, on Saturday afternoon.

His counterpart, Khabo Zondo, echoed Dos Santos' sentiments but felt that his charges gave the home side soft goals after his goalkeeper Simon Gopane was replaced by Shu-Aib Walters in the 50th minute because of a twisted ankle.

Celtic took the lead in the eighth minute through Moses Spandeel's header from a cross by Lucky Mzizi

Celtic were reduced to 10 men in the 52nd minute when striker Darrel Smith was given his marching orders by referee Daniel Volgraaff for a second bookable offence.

Walters misjudged a high ball that slipped through his hands and landed on defender Cyrille Mubiala, whose clearance took a deflection from Walters and made it 1-1.

Walters fumbled again on 66 minutes when he failed to handle substitute Tshepo Malesa's shot and Bradley August put his side 2-1 up.

Celtic equalised on 72 minutes through Spandeel (2-2) but seven minutes before the end Kurt Lentjies, converted Warren Buddie's cross to make it 3-2.

l In another cup encounter FC Cape Town beat Durban Stars 1-0 on Friday.
