Guilty plea by Kunene in case of hoax e-mails

The man at the centre of the ANC hoax e-mail saga, Muziwendoda Kunene, has pleaded guilty to contravening the Intelligence Services Oversight Act.

The man at the centre of the ANC hoax e-mail saga, Muziwendoda Kunene, has pleaded guilty to contravening the Intelligence Services Oversight Act.

Kunene appeared briefly in the Pretoria magistrate's court yesterday.

Dressed in a black shirt and khaki pants, he pleaded guilty to withholding information from the Inspector-General of Intelligence.

This after he had entered into an agreement with the state.

He was sentenced to three months imprisonment, which was suspended for three years, provided that he is not convicted of contravening Section 7 of the Intelligence Services Oversight Act.

Kunene allegedly withheld information on e-mails aimed at discrediting senior ANC officials.

The e-mails allegedly implicated senior ANC members in a conspiracy against the then ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma, who has since been elected president of the party. - Sapa
