Barbara Creecy, Gauteng MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation, will deliver the keynote address at the launch of the Selope Thema Games in Springs on Saturday.

The launch will take place at Ziba Park, Kgaswane Street in KwaThema at 2pm.

The games is in honour of struggle icon Selope "VR'' Thema, after whom KwaThema township was named.

One of the founder member of the African National Congress, Thema is also the founder of Bantu World, which later became Sowetan.

Some of the dignitaries expected at the occasion include former boxing world champion Jacob Matlala, former Kaizer Chiefs maestro Zachariah Lamola and Sensei Edward Mtshali.

The games is seen as a platform for the development of sport in communities.

It will also engage the youth in constructive activities.
