A Soweto car hijacker, who robbed motorists of their Toyota Corollas in Diepkloof, was sentenced to 22 years in jail in the Orlando regional court this week.

Nkosinathi Humphrey Ndumo of Orlando West appeared before magistrate Mahommed Jooma on Tuesday on seven counts of hijacking, armed robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He had pleaded not guilty on all charges.

Ndumo was accused of holding up the owners of Toyota cars in Diepkloof, Soweto, and robbing them of wallets, bank cards, cellphones, cash, IDs and other personal items.

Jooma said Ndumo should be removed from society for a long time. He sentenced him to 15 years for robbing Mkhulu Dakile of his car and a further seven years for shooting Tsheko Mokoena, a former friend .
