The notorious Vuwani-Malamulele road at Mukhomi village in Limpopo has claimed its third victim, Miyelani Baloyi, 9.

Baloyi, a pupil at Mukhomi Primary School, was knocked down on Friday while crossing the tarred road from his home to the school.

The boy's death has triggered renewed calls from the community for police visibility in the area.

The community has asked the government to instal speed humps on the busy road in the area since it was constructed three years ago.

Local ward councillor Shadrack Maluleke says he wrote five letters to the Department of Roads and Transport but received no answer.

"They gave me to understand that they had written to the roads agency in Limpopo about the matter, but so far nothing has come of it," Maluleke says.

He says the police should have a more visible presence in the area and monitor speeding cars.

Police spokesperson Inspector Alson Mapindani was not available for comment yesterday.
