The development of soccer in Soweto is firmly on track with professionalism instilled by the South African Football Association in the region.

This is according to development coach Mike Ntombela, who said the vote of confidence from the corporate world should encourage Safa Soweto to redouble their efforts.

Led by Phil "Chippa" Mogodi, Safa Soweto boast no less than six sponsorships for their different league and knockout competitions.

Safa Soweto products includeTeko Modise, Lebohang Mokoena (Orlando Pirates), Simphiwe Tshabalala (Kaizer Chiefs) and Clifford Ngobeni (Ajax Cape Town).

"Safa Soweto region are running their affairs in a professional way, that is why there are many companies queuing to sponsor their activities," said Ntombela.

"I would advise all the other regions of Safa to take a leaf from Safa Soweto where almost all age groups have their own competitions.

"A few weeks ago Safa Soweto announced that they will be establishing Under-13s, 15s and 16s leagues where some of the Premiership clubs are involved.

"We need to work together and help in the growth of the sport. However, we are not perfect and there is room for improvement," said Ntombela, who is the chairman of top Soweto amateur side Senaoane Gunners.

Gunners organised a meeting at the Senaoane Swimming Pool on Saturday to talk about the success and challenges facing the club.

Also on the agenda was the recent excursion by Mavarara's Under-17 side and two officials to Cape Town, where they spent a week.

The meeting, which was also attended by adidas representative Bob Maphosa, was addressed by Mogodi and Bafana Bafana assistant coach Pitso Mosimane.

Mogodi commended Ntombela for initiating a meeting to share Mavarara's successes with other clubs in Soweto.

"Bra Mike was instrumental in the revival of development soccer in Soweto."
