Kingdom Mabuza

Kingdom Mabuza

The government will intervene at diplomatic level to persuade the Botswana government to overturn the death sentence handed down to Michael Molefe, a South African citizen.

Molefe was sentenced to death for murder at the Lobatse high court in Botswana on Friday.

Molefe, 40, of Soweto and a Botswana national, and Brandon Sampson, 33, were found guilty of murdering two Zimbabwean nationals, Robert Ncube and Sam Hombarume, in December 2000 in Gaborone.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said: "We will definitely intervene for the sentence to be commuted."
