This comes after the launch of the new MEC's Cup, an initiative by MEC for sports and recreation Noxolo Abraham-Ntantiso, in Mthatha last weekend.
Gogo Manqoyi, the Eastern Cape World Cup strategic manager, said former professional players would be working as development coaches.
The legends would be conduct coaching clinics throughout the province. Some of them will adopt schools in their vicinity.
"We are using the MEC's Cup to create a 2010 World Cup legacy programme where boys and girls in the Eastern Cape will be trained by the experts," said Manqoyi.
"We won't be able to produce quality players for Bafana Bafana, the Under-23s, Banyana Banyana and Basetsana if we neglect development.
"That is why we have decided to include schools in our development programme.
"We want to make sure that a platform is created for all the youngsters to play," added Manqoyi.
Some of the legends from Eastern Cape include former Bafana Bafana striker Brendon Augustine, Frankie Schoeman and Fezile Momo.
They played an exhibition game against the Bafana Bafana Class of 1996, which included Doctor Khumalo, Phil Masinga and Edward Motale, recently.
Motale said: "It is good that the Eastern Cape is using former professional players, most of whom are involved as coaches, to develop the sport.
"It will be great for all the provincial governments to take a leaf from the Eastern Cape. There are many talented children out there waiting to be developed."
