Former Celtic player Japie Arries dies

Former Bloemfontein Celtic and Amazulu player Japie Arries has died.

Former Bloemfontein Celtic and Amazulu player Japie Arries has died.

He died after a long illness and will be buried on Saturday in Heidedal, in Bloemfontein.

Arries, 28, also played for the national Under-20 team, alongside Bafana Bafana star players such as Moeneeb Josephs and Nasif Morris.

He was part of the Under-20 team that represented the country in the 1997 Cosafa Cup. Usuthu was the last team he played for in the 2004/05 season.

He played for the Durban-based side alongside his elder brother, Hendrick, who died in 2005.

Arries was recruited by former Celtic and Ria Stars mentor Styles Phumo.

The funeral service will be on Saturday and will be held at Clive Solomon Stadium in Heidedal.
