South Africa made history when Fifa president Sepp Blatter announced on May 15 2004 that it will host the World Cup.
The 2010 World Cup, which will be the first to be hosted by an African country, is expected to attract 500000 tourists.
The Rustenburg Local Municipality will host the Confederations Cup and World Cup.
Kennedy Mosiapoa, North West World Cup coordinator, was excited about the celebration.
"Yes, it is true that we will be hosting the main event in Rustenburg," he said. "We are busy with a series of meetings for the celebration party coordinated by Tim Modise [LOC's media and communications director]."
Modise could not be reached for comment.
The other host cities will also be hosting their own celebrations attended by top government and South African Football Association (Safa) leaders.
Meanwhile, the LOC will be sending some of its staff to the Euro Cup finals in Austria and Switzerland in June on a learning curve for the World Cup.
