A 39-year-old unemployed mother of five in northern Zululand is hopping mad after police failed to conclude investigations into a sexual harassment case she opened against the Obonjeni station commissioner two years ago.

Dudu Mhlongo of Obonjeni said yesterday that she laid three charges of damage to property, sexual harassment and shooting at her in public, against Captain Vusimuzi Shabalala.

She claims she has never been contacted by the investigating officer and she believes police were covering up for their senior.

She said she was at her home when an off-duty Shabalala arrived.

"As an unemployed mother of five children I sell beers," Mhlongo said. "In November 2005, Shabalala arrived and asked why I was continuing to sell beers.

"He demanded the key for my refrigerator. I told him that the key was not with me, but with my son.

"He would not listen to me. Instead, he pushed and shoved me around and took out his gun. He fired shots at the fridge and took out all the beer.

"He fired shots in the presence of my then eight-year-old grandson, who was crying hysterically," Mhlongo said.

She claimed that Shabalala did not stop there but "touched me around my buttocks.

"Can you imagine how I felt when he did that in front of my children? They watched helplessly as he harassed me sexually.

"He did all that because he knew I have no one to defend me.

"He had a gun and had already shown that he was not afraid to shoot," said Mhlongo.

"Only police from Empangeni came and took pictures," she said.

Police spokesman Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said he was not aware of the case.

Head of detective services, Inspector Zabalaza Khuzwayo, acknowledged the case. He promised to investigate and come back to us.
