A 23-year-old security guard was assaulted and robbed of his company's white Chico Golf in Southernwood early yesterday, East London police said.

Superintendent Mtati Tana said Mncedisi Magwa was robbed at about 1.30am at the security company's offices in Mathews road.

Tana said when Magwa returned to the office after patrolling the area, he noticed a man standing at the front door to the office.

He locked the car's gearlock and a second man knocked on his car window on the driver's side.

Magwa asked the man how they had managed to enter the property and then realised the man was carrying a handgun.

The two robbers demanded the car keys and tried to drive off. The gearlock prevented them from getting away.

They then assaulted the guard before handcuffing him and tying him up to a bakkie, Tana said.

A third man arrived and helped the other two unlock the gearlock. The three stole the guard's cellphone and drove away in the car, registration number NUR41409.

Magwa was later found by colleagues.

"The police urge people to be on the lookout for this vehicle as it is still missing," Tana said.

Anyone with information can contact the police on 043-7434400 or 08600-10-111. - Sapa
