Sisonke aim for the dizzy heights

Edward Tsumele

Sisonke is brimming with energy, is focused and want to conquer the music industry by becoming one of the leading groups in the country.

Mantwa Motaung, Ntando Nogaga and Andrew Mello make up Sisonke.

Their brand is Afro-pop and judging by the support they are getting from community radio stations, many an Afro-pop fan has become hooked on their beat. Jozi FM, Radio Mafisa, Kaya FM and Retlhabile Community Radio play Sisonke's music all the time.

Kefentse Motlhoki, Sisonke's producer, said: "I released this project through Fine Tune Records, a company I formed in 2005 in Rustenburg.

"But we started operating last year after we got support from Impala Platinum Mines. We really appreciate the help from Impala," Motlhoki said.

Sisonke's debut release is aptly titled Sisonke. The group's 12-track album speaks about love.

It also pays tribute to miners who perished underground and calls them heroes who died while trying to earn a living for themselves and their families as well as boosting the economy of South Africa.

Motlhoki said, come what may, the group is determined and will conquer musical heights in the country.
