A Pretoria-based paramedic who had been on the run for more than 20 days after allegedly killing his mother-in-law has been arrested.

The man, whose name is known to Sowetan, shot and fatally wounded Sasabona Agnes Manganyi at her home in Pimville, Soweto, on February 7. The man was arrested on Wednesday night after a tip-off from members of the public.

Kliptown police spokesman Felicity Radebe said the man was found in possession of his licensed firearm they believe was used in killing Manganyi.

It all started when the man went to Pimville looking for his wife, Tsakane Manganyi, who had left their home after finding out that he had gone on holiday with another woman.

On arrival from the holiday with the other woman, the man called Tsakane and enquired where she was. When she told him she was at her parents' house, the enraged husband went to his in-laws' in Pimville. There an argument ensued between Manganyi and the man.

The man allegedly shot his mother-in-law. After killing Manganyi, the man went to another girlfriend in Atteridgeville. The girlfriend told Sowetan that the man had told her that he shot Manganyi by mistake. He will appear in court on Monday.
