Investing in development of intellectual capital and skills in general is one of the components of Vrystaat Kooperasie's strategies in terms of growth and transformation.
"Our development strategy embraces the spirit and substance of broad-based black economic empowerment in a sense that it focuses on empowerment of previously disadvantaged people to enable them to participate meaningfully at management and high-level decision making," said manager Moses Maine.
From a transformational point of view, Vrystaat Kooperasie Bpk (VKB) believes that BEE is a vital vehicle in facilitating meaningful and significant participation of previously disadvantaged individuals in South Africa's economy.
VKB is a cooperative and has been in existence for more than 80 years.
This is evident in the passion that VKB shows in developing up-and-coming farmers by furnishing them with knowledge of the greater economic structure that agriculture operates within; skills for healthy business management; basics of farm management and skills in farming practice.
"We mainly operate in the north-eastern part of Free State and have 13 grain silos and 16 commercial outlets. Koos van Rensburg is VKB's chief executive," said Maine.
Yesterday, VKB launched a leadership development programme called Accelerated Development Programme at its head office in Reitz.
The programme will be spearheaded by service provider Ito-Focus.
This programme is a year-long programme aimed at developing individuals to a supervisory level. It focuses on self-management and development of supervisory skills.
Eight people will be developed towards supervisory level, the first phase of development towards managerial level.
