Urban Warriors pip goal-shy Ezenkosi

Ajax Cape Town consolidated their spot on the Absa Premiership log with a 1-0 victory over the struggling Jomo Cosmos at Oppenheimer Stadium yesterday.

Before the game, the Urban Warriors lodged a protest with referee Matthew Dyer because ground was not marked

Cosmos were in control in the first half, giving the visitors' defence anxious moments but failed to convert their chances.

The all-important goal came in the 10th minute when Dyer penalised Cosmos striker Nkosinathi Nhleko for a hand ball just outside the 18- area yard.

Defender Bageta Dikulu stepped up and curled his spot kick into the top far right hand corner of the net, leaving Cosmos 'keeper Avril Phali left-footed.

In the 70th minute, Cosmos Dikgang Mabalane managed to beat goalie Hans Vonk but his fierce shot hit the upright.

l In Mangaung, Thabo Johnson reports that Bloemfontein Celtic beat AmaZulu 3-2 at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium yesterday.

Former Santos striker,Gerald Smith, opened the scoring in the fourth minute.

AmaZulu made two changes to stabilise their shaky midfield. They brought on Nhlanhla Zwane and John Moshoeu for Litha Ngxabi and Siboniso Gumede in the first half.

Veteran midfielder John Maduka scored his side's third goal in the 65th minute to put Phunya Selesele in a comfortable lead. But Usuthu came back when Dumisani Ngwenya scored a brace, in the 85th and 88th minutes, respectively.
