NPA still stalking head of police

Kingdom Mabuza

the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has not moved an inch since allegations of drug dealing were made against Mpumalanga police commissioner Afrika Khumalo.

Spokesman Tlali Tlali told Sowetan yesterday that the NPA was "exercising caution" before making a move. He said they were looking at "certain things" that could not be shared with the media.

"Those things will inform the NPA's next course of action," he said.

Tlali said there were two options that would be considered should they take action.

"We can either run a separate investigation or the investigation will be handed over to the police."

Khumalo, who was among the dignitaries acknowledged by Premier Thabang Makwetla during his state of the province address on Friday, said he would not "entertain rubbish".

Drug baron Glen Agliotti alleged in an affidavit to the NPA that Khumalo was part of a drug-smuggling syndicate with connections in Mozambique.

Khumalo, a former MK member, said on Friday that "these allegations are just rubbish, and I do not think I should ever say anything about it".
