Soccer and boxing legends, Joseph "Banks" Setlhodi and Peter "Terror" Mathebula, will be honoured in Randfontein on Wednesday.

This will be during the launch of the Randfontein Sport Council (RSC) at Judes Klass Hall at 6pm.

Another prominent South African sportsperson who will be honoured is Bobang Phiri., according to the Randfontein local municipality social services directorate.

Mathebula holds the record as the first black South African boxer to win a world title after dethroning Tae Shik Kim in 1980 to win the WBA flyweight crown.

Setlhodi was undoubtedly one of South Africa's most reliable goalkeepers.

He made his name at Kaizer Chiefs, where he is currently a member of the technical staff.

Sethlodi, who doubles up as scout for Amakhosi, has also served as goalkeeper coach of the South African Under-23 national soccer side in the past.

Phiri is a former athlete who specialised in 400m events and made a great impression. He represented South Africa at three successive Olympics Games, starting in 1992 in Atlanta.

He is also a former African champion in the same event.

"The sports council, with the municipality, will be honouring our sports heroes," said Ace Duiker, one of the organisers of the event.

Duiker is also one of the former professional players who are involved in the development of soccer on the West Rand.

He is an ex-Jomo Cosmos player.
