A bizarre plan

The suggestion by the English Premier League to play some of their fixtures abroad is a ridiculous move indeed.

The suggestion by the English Premier League to play some of their fixtures abroad is a ridiculous move indeed.

No self-respecting nation should allow the English to export their modern-day imperialism to destabilise the growth of its domestic league.

Allowing the screening of Premier League matches is not only counter-productive but will also serve to undermine efforts by other countries to popularise their soccer.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has also condemned the idea.

England are mere paper tigers who last won a World Cup in 1966 and their national team is still to win a trophy in Europe. Our local TV networks are already spending millions on broadcast rights for English soccer - money that could be well spent if it were kept internally.

So, let us not support this move.
