Streetkid rescued from sex pest

Melville Residents Association safety coordinator Jonathan Dubb says it is highly unacceptable that homeless children living on the suburb's streets are being sexually exploited and taken advantage of.

This comes after a restaurant manager, who may not be named, in Melville, Johannesburg, allegedly offered a 16-year-old "streetkid" money in exchange for sex at the weekend.

The man allegedly approached the boy and was spotted by residents. Police were immediately notified and the man was followed to his house in Westdene.

On arrival police called the man to the door and he was naked.

Dubb said he refused to allow police into the house. The cops found the boy naked in the man's shower. The teenager was rescued and the man arrested.

The suspect appeared briefly in the Johannesburg regional court on Monday morning on charges of indecent assault.

Last month a 15-year-old homeless child was allegedly drugged with Ecstacy tablets before being sodomised at the toilet of the Melville-Boulevard shopping centre.

His alleged molester, a transvestite in his early 20s, has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Johannesburg regional court.

The teenager is currently receiving counselling and is on anti-retroviral treatment.
