Recent cases of "spying" involving the mayor of Cape Town - and a report alleging a conspiracy to bring down the government were part of apartheid "baggage", Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils said in parliament yesterday
Kasrils said it was a "knee-jerk reaction" to immediately assume that the National Intelligence Agency were involved.
He said there was currently "a great deal" of international espionage and South Africa was not impervious to this trend.
Two bills expected to be tabled in parliament this year were the Protection of Information Bill and the National Strategic Intelligence Amendment Bill, he said.
