Don Laka, the acclaimed kwai-jazz exponent, is to launch his new album, Invitation, at the Johannesburg's Civic Theatre next week.
The show, dubbed Don Laka and Friends, sees some of the country's leading musicians on hand to support Laka's latest album.
Laka, known for his innovative music style, mixing kwaito and jazz, says younger people will be especially attracted to this blend of musical forms.
The musician is also a partner in the independent label Kalawa.
Artists who have already confirmed they will perform include Ray Phiri, Sipho "Hotsix" Mabuse, Judith Sephuma, Kunle, Gloria Bosman, Theo Kgosinkwe of Mafikizolo, Arno Carstens, Zonke and Palesa.
Laka said: "I turned 50 this year. It gave me a good reason to look back on my career and on what I enjoyed most about making music.
"The thing that stood out was the work I did with various artists and the times when I worked with an unfamiliar musical genre.
"I thought it would be great to pay tribute to these collaborations and musical adventures by inviting some artists whom I really admire to join me when I introduce it to South Africa.
"Fortunately, everyone I invited to the album launch has been as enthusiastic as I am," Laka said.
lThe show runs from February 27 to March 8.
