Chief Albert Luthuli, the musical that pays tribute to Africa's first Nobel prize laureate and leader of the ANC, is back by popular demand.
Set to have a season at the Playhouse, Durban, from February 21 to March 2, it premiered there in October 2006.
The musical will take the audience through the life and times of the popular leader, whose peaceful stance is widely respected.
He is credited with being one of the most influential and sterling leaders of the ruling party's architects. Youngsters will get into his psyche to see what really made him tick.
The Albert Luthuli production seeks to entertain and educate the South African public, and youth in particular, about the meaning of the Nobel Peace Prize, its importance and what it takes to achieve such an accolade.
Through the musical people will understand better the contributions that Luthuli made to the building of a new South Africa that we all enjoy today and thereby make him live longer in everybody's memories.
During its first season the production was highly celebrated for its sensitive treatment of this important subject. It was also applauded for being one of the few productions by young people to honour one of the legends of the struggle.
It is written and directed by Edmund Mhlongo, who is fast making a name for himself overseas.
The cast from KwaMashu KCAP Alive Kids are known for their top quality performances in Mhlongo's production. This is the same cast that performed Bayede Shaka the Spear Is Born and Jabulani South Africa Celebrate.
The production is supported by the KwaZulu-Natal premier's office. These performances are part of a commemoration of the death 40 years ago of Inkosi Albert Luthuli.
