A 60-year-old Limpopo woman accused of hiring hitmen to kill her husband appeared in the Sekhukhuni magistrate's court on Monday.
Elizabeth Malomane appeared with Frans Mohale, 20, Jacob Maleka, 21, Collen Makalela, 27, John Chisenge, 32 and Peter Pitjeng, 37. They were denied bail and remanded in custody. Their case will be heard again on Friday for bail application.
Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the accused were arrested last Friday.
Their arrest is a sequel to an attack that took place at Malomane's luxury home in Tukakgomo village outside Burgersfort on January 15.
Malomane's husband, Lucky, 57, a Limpopo businessman, was asleep when the hitmen broke into his house.
"We found Malomane tied with ropes on the ground floor, while her husband's body was found in a pool of blood on the second floor.
"Our investigations have revealed that she is connected with the death of her husband," Ramatseba said yesterday.
According to Ramatseba, the woman had allegedly paid the men R6000 to kill her husband. Her husband had apparently found her "having sex" with another man in a Polokwane hotel.
"She had apparently told her husband she was going to a casino outside Polokwane. The husband allegedly found her having sex with a man in the hotel.
The man jumped out of the hotel window and fled. The husband then reportedly assaulted her.
"We have also established the man she was caught having sex with was one of the alleged hit men," Ramatseba said.
