Budding choral music singers have an opportunity to test their talents in the ongoing Massed Choir Festival.
The popular music occasion is powered by the Transnet Foundation, the SABC and Sowetan.
Featuring 20 choirs of various racial backgrounds, the large Nation Building Orchestra, guest choirs and artists and conducted by several choral and classical music practitioners, the festival is a highlight for any self-respecting aspirant's curriculum vitae.
The festival takes place at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg on September 14.
Auditions for the festival will be conducted for the following voices - soprano, mezzo-soprano or alto; tenor and baritone or bass
Each candidate is expected to prepare one solo piece from a classical Western repertoire and one vernacular, African, piece.
The pieces must have scores for accompaniment.
A pianist will be provided and soloists must bring their own corrected music and should show an understanding of the African style of singing.
Candidates should report to the SABC in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, on March 8.
Auditions will be held in the M1A Studio at Radio Park between 9am and 3pm.
