The ANC Youth League in Limpopo wants its secretary, Julius Malema, to take over from incumbent president Fikile Mbalula.

The league said this week that Malema would fit well into the shoes of Mbalula, who is to vacate the position as he is over 35.

Before being elected ANCYL Limpopo secretary, Malema was secretary and later chairman of Cosas in Limpopo and later its national president.

"His ambition to realise the ideals of the Freedom Charter made him work tirelessly for the youth of Limpopo as if his life depended on liberation and service delivery.

"Malema demonstrated over the years to be a credible, matured, vibrant, militant and dynamic youth leader ready to assume critical responsibilities of the organisation," said the league's provincial chairman Joshua Matlou.
