Premier Soccer League (PSL) life president Leepile Taunyane has received yet another accolade with his appointment as an honorary life member of the national executive committee of the South African Football Association.

The long-serving administrator, who is a teacher by profession, will be obligated to attend six meetings of the executive committee a year, among other duties.

"It is an honour and privilege for me to have been appointed to this committee," said Taunyane.

"It is a recognition and appreciation of the services I have rendered to football over the years."

The Alexandra-born teacher was instrumental in the formation of some of the local and district associations that fall under the jurisdiction of Safa.

Taunyane committed himself to continuing to serve the beautiful game in his new capacity, coupled with the different roles that he is involved in.

"I pledge myself to continue to serve once more with loyalty and diligence in this country as well as in the rest of the continent."

He has served the football fraternity in various leadership roles since the 1970s, including occupying the presidency of the Transvaal Football Association (1974-85), the Alexandra Football Association (1959-80), as vice president of the South African National Football Association (1978-1985), chairman of the National Soccer League (1985-93) and chairman of the Premier Soccer League (1996-2001).

Premier Soccer League chief executive Kjetil Siem also congratulated Taunyane on his achievement.

"Dr Taunyane has led the way for many years in South Africa's football and sports administration and he's a shining example to us all," commented Siem.

"We in the PSL must aspire to the heights set by Dr Taunyane in our quest to become a well-oiled administration unit for professional football in this country," added Siem.
