Five people were arrested yesterday in Bethlehem for possession of several bags of dagga, Free State police said.

"Police spotted a green VW Golf with suspicious-looking occupants. They followed the vehicle, which led to the occupants abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot," said Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.

Police then found the dagga in the car with an estimated value of R4000. "When the police went back to the station, they received a call from a security guard on a farm who noticed the two suspects walking on a road in the area. Police then went to the farm and arrested them."

Police noticed another car with suspicious-looking occupants in the area and followed it. A man and woman were inside. "While police were busy with the two, one of the arrested suspects called her on her cellphone, and this led to the arrest of the two occupants.

A fifth man was arrested later in connection with the incident. - Sapa
