Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
A clinical manager at Helen Franz Hospital in Limpopo, Abednigo Ledwaba, who was recently arrested for drunken driving, may face another charge of reporting to work while under the influence of alcohol.
But this time the charge may be laid by the provincial department of health, which has started investigations against him.
The department said last week that another charge of misconduct could be instituted against Ledwaba.
Health spokesman Phuti Seloba said the department was investigating allegations that Ledwaba frequently reported for work drunk.
"We have received a number of concerns from the hospital that he was misbehaving.
"We have also received complaints that Ledwaba sometimes does not report for work without a good reason.
"This type of behaviour cannot be tolerated and will be dealt with severely," said Seloba.
Seloba said Ledwaba's bad conduct had been going on for some time.
Ledwaba joined the hospital in July but has been nothing but trouble, said officials who did not want to be named.
He was arrested a fortnight ago while allegedly driving at high speed.
The alcohol test revealed that he was above the legal limit.
Police said Ledwaba appeared in the Polokwane magistrate's court on a charge of drunken driving.
He is out on bail and will appear again on April 13.
