Enterprising golfer James Kamte has just returned from Dubai and is taking part in the inaugural Africa Open Golf Challenge at the Fish River Sun Country Club near Port Alfred this week.

He teed off yesterday with top players in the event that is likely to be exciting.

Kamte was invited to play in the Indian Masters after the Dubai event but opted to come back home to take part in this tournament.

"Playing in Dubai was nice and a good experience for me and I was happy to make the cut. I will know what to expect next year," he said. "I had to come back to support a local tournament for a good cause.

"I played on this course when I was still young and it is always a challenge for me when the wind comes up."

Another player who will be taking part is Eugene Marugi, who was bitten by a puff adder at the 11th hole of the Nashua Masters last week.

The youngster, who has fully recovered, said the snake bite had made him stronger to challenge for the title.

"I'm back and more stronger than before," Marugi said.

" The snake bite gave me a new lease of life and who knows, maybe I'll win this event."

Among the hopeful starters campaigning for the winner's cheque worth R190000 is rising KwaZulu-Natal star Prinavin Nelson.

Nelson made an impression in his professional debut at the European Tour co-sanctioned Joburg Open recently.
