ACCRA - The South African High Commission in Ghana has organised an exhibition centre to promote the 2010 World Cup finals in west Africa.

The exhibition opened yesterday morning at the new state-of-the-art Accra mall in the central business district, where there are a number of popular South African clothing, food and cellphone stores operating.

Rapu Molekane, right, the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, opened the exhibition at a ceremony attended by soccer officials from across the continent. Molekane said the centre would run until Saturday.

"We thought it will be a good idea for the exhibition to coincide with the 26th MTN Africa Cup of Nations final in Ghana.

"The good thing about it taking place now is that the who's who of soccer on the continent and globally are here," he said.

"When we were bidding to host the tournament, we made it clear that it will be an African World Cup.

"We will also use the exhibition to tell our brothers and sisters in other African countries about the developments in terms of our preparations.

"It is also an opportunity to teach them about the history of soccer in South Africa and all the other things they may want to know about our country," said Molekane, whose mission is working hard in the region to create awareness of the World Cup.
