Two schoolboys aged 14 and 17 have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl.
This adds some weight to recent claims that South Africa has the most dangerous schools in the world.
The two boys are pupils at Nqgayizivele High School and Reagile Primary School in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
Police spokesman Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said yesterday: "The girl's mother had sent her to buy meat at a butchery and the boys followed her and threatened her before dragging her into one of the boy's shack where she was allegedly raped."
The boys released her at 2am but as she was scared to go home, she slept at a friend's place where her mother later found her.
On their way home, they met one of the alleged rapists going to school.
They alerted police and the two youths were arrested.
Ralidzhivha said: "We are not going to let youngsters get away with crime simply because they are schoolchildren. Rape is a serious crime."
The boys were charged with rape and are expected to appear in the Tembisa magistrate's court soon.
