In another twist involving the public protector’s office‚ the Minister of Co-operative Governance an.
I write this letter to state my disappointment with the proposal by an ANC MP that prostitution should be legalised for the duration of the 2010 world tournament.
He also claimed that men rape because they do not have "access" to women and that legalising prostitution would boost taxes and improve the lives of unemployed people.
I would be failing as a Christian and as an African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) representative if I did not speak up.
I condemn the proposal because it would bring more confusion to our society. The MP was voted into power and given a mandate to lead - not mislead.
The proposal only encourages moral decay in the country. It is definitely not helpful to anyone.
The MP's comments insinuate that having access to a prostitute is somehow a positive thing. There is a huge difference between making love and satisfying one's lust.
I do not believe that the World Cup will be a success if prostitution is legalised. The success of this tournament will be dependant on meaningful contributions of all South Africans - as well as on God's help.
I want to call upon the MP who released this information not to mislead our nation.
The ACDP has condemned legalising prostitution from the beginning - and we still condemn it today.
