The Moffat Park murder, rape and robbery suspect was investigated for similar crimes in Cape Town.

Investigating officer Captain Mike Van Aardt yesterday told the Johannesburg high court that he and other officers had taken Richman Makhwenkwe to Cape Town.

They were investigating two other bodies found buried in shallow graves that had been found before those in Moffat Park.

"In Cape Town we went to the Macassar police station. The reason I suspected the accused [Makhwenkwe] is that the bodies had been buried the same way as those in Moffat Park.

"The second reason is that the accused had stayed near where the bodies were found," Van Aardt said.

He said though that Makhwenkwe had not been charged for the Cape Town murders.

Makhwenkwe is facing five charges of murder, four of rape and five of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The charges emanate from allegations that Makhwenkwe robbed, raped and killed people, including his girlfriend Zoleka Kula and school girl Venesa Thandi Sibiya.

Makhwenkwe's lawyer Lucky Dikolomela said his client had been assaulted.

He also said Makhwenkwe would tell the court he was in hospital when Kula was killed.
