Pupils at a high school in Limpopo will be able to fight poverty from an early age should they consider following in the footsteps of their technology teacher.
The teacher at Kgapane High School near Modjadjiskloof, Morris Semosa, also teaches them skills in martial arts.
He produces hardware as part of the New National Curriculum Statement to make sure his work stands the test of time.
Semosa, 44, of Ga-Kgapane township, started his teaching career at the school about 17 years ago.
He teaches technology and has produced good results over the past 10 years.
Besides his career as a teacher, Semosa also runs a factory a stone's throw away from the school, where he manufactures various sanitary ware and things such as house pillars, windowsills, paving bricks and air bricks.
In an interview with Sowetan, Semosa said he decided to share his skills with his pupils for them to prepare for their future.
He said the moulds he uses are self-made and that some of them have been designed by the pupils during practicals at the school.
He employs 11 people who run the factory while he is at school.
According to Semosa, most of his clients are big-name companies in the hardware industry in Limpopo such as Magic Build, Hardware City and Bargain Ware.
Pupils in Grade 9 at the school say Semosa has a big heart, and has offered to teach them until they are able to design any product that forms part of their curriculum.
When Sowetan visited the school on Wednesday, the pupils were busy designing moulds for windowsills as part of their practical learning.
