Hertha Berlin left-back Gilberto's move to Tottenham will no longer go ahead, according to the German club.
The clubs had agreed a fee for the Brazil international, but the deal has collapsed after the player failed a second medical at White Hart Lane.
The results "prevented a contract between the player and Tottenham from being concluded to the original conditions", said a club statement.
"Gilberto will fulfil his contract until June 2008 with Hertha Berlin."
The 31-year-old, who played for Brazil at the 2006 World Cup, can also play in midfield.
The Bundesliga club now risks losing the player on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer and has described Tottenham's attitude as "incomprehensible".
"Hertha BSC and Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement over the transfer of the player after the statutory medical last Sunday, when all conditions for a transfer were fulfilled," added the statement. - BBC
