The South African Association of Trade Union Officials (Saatuo) has accused one of its employer bodies of victimisation, non-payment of bonuses and sexual harassment of female employees.
The association said yesterday it had lodged a complaint with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration against the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) over unpaid Christmas bonuses for last year.
Saatuo said it represents the interests of union officials in Cosatu, Fedusa and Solidarity.
"The union withdrew employees' bonuses last December and cut bond subsidies without consulting staff," said spokesman Humbulani Tshikarange.
He also said that staff forums were not effective and committee members were victimised and therefore could not carry their tasks effectively.
The hearing will be held next month.
NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka confirmed that they would be facing Saatou at the CCMA next month.
He said employees knew in 2006 that there would be no bonuses for 2007.
"We are ready to face them at the CCMA.
"The factor here is that people forget that we look after the interests of the poor, these are our members who work hard to earn their money.
"The private sector would be the place to earn more money," said Seshoka.
He denied any cases of victimisation and sexual harassment of female staff.
He said the association could be taken to court for such serious allegations.
Tshikarange said his organisation was formed to represent the interests of trade union employees on conditions of service and salaries.
"The other factor that influenced us to form the union is rule 25 of the CCMA, which does not allow trade union employees to represent their own colleagues," said Tshikarange.
