The worst is awaiting the Limpopo man who disappeared after being found in bed with a taxi owner's wife in Steelpoort.
His employers want to lay charges of misconduct against him - if he resurfaces - Sowetan learnt yesterday.
His family would only say: "the matter should be treated with the privacy it deserves and no outsider will convince us to speak about it."
Dickson Makeke, who is feared drowned and dead after he jumped into the overflowing Tubatse river two weeks ago, has not reported for work for more than a month "without a valid reason".
He allegedly threw himself into the river after he was caught bonking a taxi operator's wife. He allegedly ran naked out of the house.
His employers said yesterday he was last seen at work in mid-December.
Makeke, 45, worked as a community liaison officer for the Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality (GSDM).
Municipal spokesman Selby Makgotho confirmed yesterday that Makeke will face misconduct charges if he resurfaced.
"For now it is not known what is keeping Makeke away from work.
"All we know is that his case is in the hands of the police," Makgotho said.
GSDM's policy states that any employee who stays away from work for 30 consecutive days is automatically dismissed.
Officials from the municipality "had been "were sent to Makeke's family to find out what his problem was". But the family also had no clue about his whereabouts, according to Makgotho.
A source at the municipality also informed Sowetan thatMakeke had forwarded a sick note from a doctor earlier this year. But the municipality dismissed the letter because "it was forged".
It is unclear if Makeke is still alive.
Police reported earlier this week that a withdrawal had been made from his bank account in Burgersfort.
Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the search for Makeke was still continuing.
