Mama Angel received a warm letter from the director of Oliver's House in Benoni - thanking Mama for the lovely goodies they received last week.

Terence Ferreira, the director of the charity, had asked for Mama Angel's help in stocking their larder.

"Thank you for the extremely generous and caring way in which you have helped Oliver's House and our children at Nomthandazo with the tremendous amount of foodstuffs you purchased.

"This means even more to us because you have taken time out of your busy schedules to do the shopping yourselves."

Oliver's House looks after historically disadvantaged children in the Zenzele informal settlement near Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

Nomthandazo Day Care Centre is the brainchild of Ndazi Mtshweni, who offers a free service for mothers who go to town to look for jobs. Mtshweni looks after 120 children a day.

Oliver's House has a free education centre where free extra lessons are given to Grade 11 and 12 pupils in Maths, Science, Biology, English and Accountancy.

There are also free lessons for Grade 12 pupils who have failed any of the above subjects the previous year.

All pupils availing themselves of the services offered at the centre have to attend the mandatory HIV-Aids awareness programme that is taught every Saturday from 9am to 11am.

Oliver's House runs a large computer training centre in Benoni where about 1200 historically disadvantaged pupils a year are empowered.

"In all the services we provide, 99percent of our beneficiaries are black, with gender on average in any given year being 69percent female and 31percent male."
