A Mpumalanga mental patient who allegedly murdered his grandmother was denied bail in the Tonga magistrate's court yesterday.
Mgcibelo Mnisi was remanded in custody pending further police investigation.
Mnisi, 18, appeared before Magistrate Edgar Moletsane .
He was not asked to plead on the charge of murder and his case was adjourned to February 13.
The state prosecutor told Sowetan the case was postponed to enable the investigation officer to get more details and call witnesses.
Mnisi was arrested on Monday night for allegedly killing Martha Ndukule, 76, at Block B near Komatipoort.
Tonga police spokesman Constable Mzwandile Nyambi commended swift police action in the arrest of the suspect.
