Ghana bowls Ajax fan over

Gladys Bailey, Ajax Cape Town's number one fan, is impressed with the patriotism displayed by the Ghanaians.

"What I have seen here in Ghana is very wonderful," said Bailey from Eldorado Park, who is one of the four well-known South African soccer fans attending the 26th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

"It is what we call total passion by the local supporters and other people who are not really into soccer. The west Africans are passionate about soccer and will do everything and anything to watch it.

"I also love their creativity when it comes to body painting, everything is done in line with the national colours depending on where one is from. That is what is lacking back home.

"We still have people who are not patriotic, we need to go to the stadium when Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana, Majimbos and other national teams are playing both at home and away."

"On the day of a match everybody wears the national colours, those who do not have replica jerseys wear a scarf or carry a national flag."

Bailey is in Ghana with other well-known supporters Johannes "Mzion" Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates), Freddy "Saddam" Maake (Kaizer Chiefs) and Robert "Mzekezeke" Nkosi (Mamelodi Sundowns) at the invitation of Safa.
