The father of a nine-year-old boy who drowned in a hole in Limpopo insists that he will sue the construction company that was fixing the road at Matlala Ramosibo village in Limpopo.

Jacob Modiba's son Glen drowned while looking for his father's cows in the mountains. Glen was a Grade 3 pupil at Mashung Primary School.

Police said the boy and his friends were playing in the area when one of them fell into the open hole.

"The boy fell into the hole that was left open by a construction company which was fixing the road.

"After he drowned, his friends alerted an elderly person who was passing by. It was unfortunate that the boy could not swim," said police spokesman Senior Superintendent Jackson Tlemo.

The boy's father said: "I still cannot believe that my son is dead. I am going to sue the construction company because I believe they are responsible for my son's death.

"They should have closed that hole because children, older people and our cattle use that road everyday."

The local councillor was not available for comment at the time of going to print.

The young Modiba will be buried on Saturday at 7am at Matlala Ramosibo village in Limpopo.
