DA leader Helen Zille has demanded that Justice Minister Brigitte Mabandla explain the pending disbanding of the Scorpions.
The DA leader also wants to know why the Khampepe Commission's recommendations are being ignored, more so after they were endorsed by President Thabo Mbeki during his State-of-the-Nation Address last year.
"What is not clear is the logic behind destroying an effective corruption-busting force.
"Since the Scorpions were established, the unit has made nearly 2000 arrests, finalised about 1300 investigations and seized R1billion worth of contraband.
"It also has an impressive conviction rate of 85percent," Zille said. - Eric Naki
