Bidvest Wits were over the moon with the signing of buzzing midfielder Richard Rantjie in Johannesburg yesterday.

The former SuperSport United player signed a three-year deal with the Clever Boys for an undisclosed fee. His acquisition was confirmed by Wits' manager George Mogotsi, who said the right-footed Rantjie would add value to the team.

"Everybody is excited that Rantjie will strengthen the team and his presence will bolster our chances of ending the Absa Premiership season among the top four," said Mogotsi.

He added that the elusive Rantjie would start training with the rest of the squad at Marks Park this morning.

"We were not looking to make major changes to the squad in the [transfer] window period, but Richard was certainly a target,'' said an excited Roger de Sa, Wits' coach.

Rantjie can improve his prospects of playing for the national Under-23 squad and Bafana Bafana after spending almost the entire first round at Matsatsantsa a Pitori on the bench.

He might make his debut today when Wits face Angola Atletico in a friendly at Marks Park at 3pm.
