The Five Nations men's hockey tournament gets under way at the North West University Stadium in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

The inaugural tournament, hosted by the South African Hockey Association (Saha), will end next Sunday.

Five teams: Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the hosts, will take part.

Paul Richards, general manager of Saha, said all teams will be preparing for the Olympic Games in Beijing in August.

"We are honoured to host the maiden tournament and hope to display our talent against the best countries in the world."

The South African squad, which was announced earlier this week, is expected to assemble today in Johannesburg before they travel down to Potchefstroom.

In their opening game on Sunday, South Africa come up against the Netherlands while Spain meet Germany in the second game.

SA squad: Geoff Abbott, Clyde Abrahams, Shanyl Balwanth, Marvin Bam, Paul Blake, Gareth Carr, Andrew Cronje, Ken Forbes, Tommy Hammond, Chris Hibbert, Julian Hykes, Bruce Jacobs, Thornton McDade, Rassie Pieterse, Eric Rose-Innes, Austin Smith, Emile Smith and Lungile Tsolekile.
